Largo Gelso and statue of Domenico Modugno

Stroll past the Bourbon Bridge of Lama Monachile; after the inevitable photographs you reach Largo Gelso and you will see the statue of our already famous fellow citizen, Domenico Modugno.

The famous statue is dedicated to the famous singer-songwriter and was created by the Argentine sculptor Hermann Mejer.

Pino Pascali Museum Foundation

The Museum, in memory of Pino Pascali, the second best-known character of Polignano, who died prematurely in September 1968, is certainly one of the attractions not to be missed.

San Vito Abbey

Splendid historical building at the foot of the suggestive little port populated by the goiters of the local fishermen, where you can also enjoy a coastal walk up to the ancient Saracen tower;

Santa Barbara Archaeological Area

1.5 km from the coast, there is this archaeological site, investigated since the mid-seventies, affected by two periods of attendance.

In the first period (VI-V millennium BC), a village was established, surrounded by a moat, which makes it exceptional in central Puglia;

The second period of attendance is known for the hypogea, among which the Manfredi hypogeum stands out, which has revealed a very great antiquity as regards this type of monument.

Historic Center of Monopoli

Less than 10 minutes by car from Polignano you will find Monopoli and its picturesque historic center developed around the old port, full of alleys, churches, the Bastion of Santa Maria, the Castle of Charles V, the Cathedral of Maria Santissimo della Madia, and its many coves. We recommend looking for a good tour guide if you don't want to waste too much time searching.

Conversano city of art

It is a small town with refined features, a 15-minute drive from Polignano. Called the city of the Murge, or of the Megalithic Walls, with a past rich in dominations, which saw the Byzantines, the Lombards, the Princes of Salerno and many others, up to the last lords of the house: the accounts of Acquaviva di Aragona. Rich in history and art, with its majestic monuments, on summer or autumn evenings it comes alive with events, concerts or popular festivals.

Caves of Castellana

It is a complex of underground cavities of karstic origin, formed about 90/100 million years ago, of considerable tourist interest, located in the Municipality of Castellana-Grotte, about 25 minutes by car from Polignano.
The visit to the caves unwinds along a 3 km route: an extraordinary guided excursion, about 70 meters deep, in an astonishing setting, where caverns with fantastic names, canyons, abysses, stalactites and stalagmites with incredible shapes and colors solicit the imagination of children and adults.

Trulli of Alberobello and Valle d'Itria

The trulli, typical limestone houses of Alberobello (a 30-minute drive from Polignano), are extraordinary examples of dry-stone slab construction, which have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1996. They are scattered throughout the Itria Valley where you will find other unmissable villages such as Locorotondo, with its Cummerse and the Belvedere; Ostuni, the white city, which owes its nickname to its historic center covered with very white, almost dazzling lime; Cisternino, the homeland of the Bombette: All places included in the famous list of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
